Commissioned by ProRail, Anton Rail Infra in Kerkrade has made a former Veetunnel suitable for pedestrians and maintenance vehicles as an alternative to an unprotected railway crossing. For this it was necessary to increase the clearance height of the tunnel, to adjust the water balance and to apply a half-hardening.
After completion of the Veetunnel, the nearby unprotected railway crossing was remediated and closed with permanent fencing. The new access route will ensure that the Wormdal behind it is accessible to pedestrians and maintenance vehicles.
Work included:
- carry out soil remediation;
- replace masonry diver for PVC divers
- increase clearance height by means of decrease ground level
- apply drainage
- apply semi-hardening
- cleaning + repair masonry
- places permanent fencing and gates
- remove level crossing plates
- restore fireplace path
