Commissioned by ProRail, Anton Rail & Infra has restored the 12 tree boxes above Breda station to their former state. The reason for the work was an incident in 2018 in which a glass plate came down during a storm. After this incident, all glass plates were immediately removed and the tree boxes were fitted with temporary roofs.
In 2023, work started on renewing the tree boxes. First, the temporary roofs were removed. Then, during several nights, fall nets were installed around the tree boxes to allow the work to be carried out safely.
The 12 new tree boxes hang about 11 metres above the tracks. They have been fitted with a grid floor and frames, and the existing lighting has been replaced with LED lights. As a result, the trees are beautifully lit at night.
To carry out the maintenance safely, the tree boxes were fitted with permanent fall protection. Finally, the fall nets were removed again and the new trees were installed in May 2024. The modified tree boxes provide natural light on the platforms below. When passengers look up from the platform, they see the trees. A magnificent sight!
