A beautiful project in ARTIS: Anton Bouw en Betontechniek is responsible for the concrete work of the new lion enclosure in Artis. Good news for the lions, because this new residence is more than ten times the size of the current residence.
In addition to the country house, the lion’s residence consists of a visitor’s tunnel: a covered passage. This passage is made entirely of concrete. The covered passage leads to a walking path for visitors surrounded by two waterfalls. A new waterfall and an existing waterfall, which again gives a nice central place. The lions can then be seen from all angles through different vistas.
Concrete work
Anton Bouw & Betontechniek spent a period of 6 months adjusting the existing foundation of alga cell enclosure, installing the tunnel walls, creating the tunnel deck with the awning (20 m1 free span through the front eye of the floor), concrete work of the stream, retaining walls under the ground and as a foundation for the fencing, precast trample and sanded concrete floor with the brass intermediate strips. The concrete staircase and the concrete floor are sanded, so that the gravel in the concrete work has become visible.

ARTIS
During the construction of the stay, there sometimes appeared to be existing cables and pipes that were not known in advance. That is why the design has been modified a number of times. Fortunately, everyone was flexible in this and this did not pose any problems for the collaboration. The lion’s residence in ARTIS was opened on October 5, 2023.
