Commissioned by Hilhorst Bouwbedrijf Amsterdam, Loos Betonreparaties is working with JM Totaalafdichtingen BV on the total concrete restoration of the redevelopment of the former CSM site in Halfweg, which has since been renamed the SugarCity site.
Loos Betonreparaties has been asked to restore the former sugar factory to its former glory in terms of concrete work. An immense area of concrete floors, concrete walls, window sills, window frames, eaves and balconies are all being replaced and restored.
Sugar factory history
In 1863, the first sugar refinery was opened in Halfweg. After a few years, this sugar factory closed, followed not much later by N.V. Suikerfabriek Holland. In 1919, N.V. Suikerfabriek Holland was transferred to the Centrale Suiker Maatschappij. This gives rise to the name CSM site.
Sweet combination of business & pleasure
Work on the redevelopment of the SugarCity site has been going on since 2000. On the former CSM Suikerfabriek site in Halfweg, 110,000 m² will be given a new function. The whole area is being addressed. The sugar silos, where sugar used to be stored, have been converted into state-of-the-art showrooms and offices, the 21,000 sq m factory hall will be used as an event venue and the 20,000 sq m ‘Amsterdam The Style Outlets’ will open. Besides retail, there will be (among other things) various catering establishments, a marina, a supermarket as well as a 400-room hotel with space for events and conferences. In short, a place where business and pleasure come together perfectly!
