Years of extraction of gas and salt in the rural area of Franekeradeel-Harlingen has negatively affected the area’s water management, resulting in soil subsidence. This made the province decide to implement the remedial measures in collaboration and consultation with Anton Bouw & Betontechniek, among others. These remedial measures are included in the specifications and form the project: Area development Franekeradeel-Harlingen. At the location of the old bridge, a completely new one has been built over the Doanjumer Feart and the adjacent slow traffic bridge has been jacked up. Partly thanks to this area development, the area remains liveable.
